“Stop the illegal practices of a learning disability charity”
“Stop the illegal practices of a learning disability charity”
My name is Maria Martin and I would really appreciate your help in assisting me in my whistleblowing claims against my former employer, a UK charity providing services to vulnerable adults with learning difficulties.
I used to work as a driver/support worker assisting vulnerable adults with learning difficulties, some of who were non-verbal. During my time I witnessed several incidents including:
- An untrained staff member feeding a member through a pic line in the stomach
- Staff with no seizure training being assigned to supervise individuals at significant risk of seizures
- Staff members being left to care for too many individuals at once due to shortage, meaning vulnerable adults who require 1 to 1 care were not being properly supervised
- Failure to adequately train staff members resulting in significant health and safety issues
- Transportation of vulnerable adults in unsafe conditions
In addition to the dangerous practices above, in January this year it came to light that myself and other drivers had been driving the vehicles illegally due to the incorrect insurance in place and we were unlawfully advised to say we were driving voluntarily if stopped by the police.
I refused to lie to the police. I raised health and safety concerns with management and as a result my hours were drastically reduced, I was bullied and forced out of the business.
If my loved one was attending a day centre like this I would be horrified. I need support to ensure this is brought into the public domain so the families of these vulnerable adults are aware.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.
