Trans Women and the State Pension
Trans Women and the State Pension

Trans women like me are being denied our entitlement to five years of state pension.
Who am I?
I'm a trans woman, parent, grandparent and activist for LGBT+ rights. A former college lecturer I was an equality activist at all levels in my union and an LGBT+ rep on the union's National Executive.
Why do I need your help?
The UK Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is refusing to accept my backdated eligibility for state pension at age 60, despite my formal gender transition in 2008. They are still treating people like me as male for pension entitlement purposes.
There are a number of other trans women in the same situation who, like me, did not obtain the Gender Recognition Certificate that the DWP insisted on, either because we were being forced to annul our marriages to get one or for other reasons. Despite in many cases living as women for decades, and despite the European Court of Justice's recent ruling in the case of MB v DWP that the DWP acted in a discriminatory way, the DWP continues to refuse to accept liability in my case.
Before I can pursue a full legal challenge on behalf of myself and others in similar situations I need to raise around £6,000 to obtain a legal opinion.
Can you help me and other trans women fight this injustice?
