During our time as friends of Amy Winehouse, she generously gifted us various items, which anyone who knew her will recognise as characteristic of her kind and giving nature. We subsequently had these items in our possession for well over a decade and talked about them openly both in the press and to Mr. Winehouse himself. Our ownership was never questioned – until they were sold.

To honour Amy's legacy, by showcasing her positive accomplishments and preserving her memory, we undertook a large-scale project which attracted substantial publicity and lasted many years. This consisted of the book ‘Amy Winehouse - Beyond Black’, several exhibitions starting at the Grammy Museum in LA and ending at the Design Museum in London, two documentaries and multiple contributions to press articles, radio shows, TV appearances and more. Throughout these years of activity, we talked about and used our collections integrally.

We invested significant personal resources into this endeavour and, upon the project’s completion, decided to part ways with some items from our collections in the 2021 auction, titled ‘Property from the Life and Career of Amy Winehouse', which we initiated and organised in collaboration with Amy's estate.

Following the auction, to our shock, Mitch Winehouse initiated a legal campaign alleging that we had no right to sell these items and that we concealed our intentions from him. We emphatically refute these claims and are fully committed to defending our position.

The reported figures in Mr. Winehouse's claim, widely circulated in the media, significantly exaggerated our earnings. His legal actions, which have been taking place since 2021, have had a profound impact on us personally, professionally and financially. In short, our money has now run out and we need help to continue our fight.

Despite the challenges, we are resolute in proving that these allegations are false in the belief that wealth should not be used as a means of intimidation. With ongoing legal costs to exceed £250,000, should it go all the way to court, we are seeking to raise significant funds through CrowdJustice if we are to stand a chance against Mitch Winehouse and his well-funded legal team.

Our goal is to raise £15,000 to contribute to the next stage, with all donations going directly to our legal representatives at Lee & Thompson LLP. We commit to keeping you informed with regular updates on the progress of the proceedings.

After the case is over any surplus of funds or recovered costs that have been provided through CrowdJustice funding will be donated to the ‘Access to Justice Foundation’ directly, so you can rest assured that it will be paid forward.
