Save Melwood represent the community of West Derby and neighbour districts in opposing Liverpool Football Club's proposed sale of their historic Melwood training ground to property developers. The plans involve the building of 160 new homes in an area where schools are at full capacity, traffic is at saturation point and health services are over-subscribed. The area is also home to Alder Hey Children's Hospital as well as key disability services, children services and hospices.

The additional strain put on access to these vital services allied to the risk to lives on already congested narrow roads that cannot be expanded or adapted has brought us to this point.

If this outrageous development is allowed to go-ahead it would also have terrible consequences for the environment, including increased pollution and flood risks in an area where floods are already commonplace.

Unfortunately Liverpool City Council have already granted outline planning permission for the development, against the advice of the local MP, Stephen Twigg, local councillors and residents.

Representatives of Liverpool Football Club have made it abundantly clear that they plan to proceed with their sale. The club stand to make in the region of £7million from the sale – a very small sum in comparison the club’s assets and the devastation to the local area should the development go ahead.

Save Melwood strongly believe that Liverpool Football Club has a duty to preserve the legacy of the training ground and to consider the detriment to local area.

We are asking for funds to help pay for expert reports into potential negative environmental effects this development could cause  and to seek court intervention, if necessary.
