Who am I?:

Trained at Cambridge and St Thomas's in London, then in the Oxford Region GP Training. A GP since 1987 I took on Mapperley Park Medical Centre in 1992 serving a mixed inner city population of over 2,000 patients.

Case Background:

The Care Quality Commission did not follow their appropriate procedures when they summarily closed the practice in September 2016.  The Practice lost all its staff and 1,000 patients re-registered elsewhere when they needed injections.  While closed we recruited and trained new staff and managers.  The patients lobbied the CQC and since reopening in December 2016 we have continued our reputation for personal care and grown strongly.

The UK has very few small GP medical medical practices remaining, yet recent research shows that this form of care is more effective, even improving life expectancy and reducing expensive hospital costs across all fields of medicine.

Why do we need your help?

We need help with the legal costs incurred when successfully challenging a hostile regulatory process.

The GP Annual Questionnaire is a validated survey of patient experience of their GP and this year we have the highest scores in Nottinghamshire.

The CQC continued inspections and proposals to close the Practice resulting in the need to take legal advice in order to continue providing care and doing the work we love. However, the period of closure resulted in a very large reduction in income and our reserves to cover our costs are exhausted.

We asking for support to meet our legal costs.  Financial sustainability will enable the Practice to continue and to offer a partnership to an additional doctor.
