Private Tenants Action against Deliberate Injustice
Private Tenants Action against Deliberate Injustice
Who we are
We are both pensioners. Barry is 71 and I am 76. We are taking a case against our landlord and his letting agent for complete neglect of our home and allowing us to live in uninhabitable circumstances.
In 2016, Barry had cancer and had a severe stroke in 2017. We believe this is due to the serious housing defects and the stress caused by these issues.
Our case
We were left with a home with black mould, a dangerously manual gas fire, live electrical wires exposed in the kitchen ,and water leaking into the garage. Despite, our constant reports of this, nothing was done. Eventually, through no fault of our own we had to move out as it was not healthy or safe to keep living under these conditions. We had to find somewhere new to live, and give up our home.
We want to hold the landlord and agent accountable for their actions and their dereliction of duty to their tenants and set a precedent to ensure that this doesn't happen ever again!
Why are we raising funds?
As pensioners we are finding it very difficult to find the funds to pay our brilliant lawyers. We have managed to pay out £700 up till now - leaving us with the very basics to live on and pay our bills - but we want to fight on! To do that we need your help; we need to raise £2000 to start with so that our lawyers fees can be paid.
Why is our case important?
We are almost certain that our case at tribunal will be a first and if we are successful, we will set a precedent for others to use in future cases. We want all tenants who have experienced similar issue to get the justice they deserve and not be forced to live under such terrible conditions. It takes just one person to succeed to show the way ahead for others!
