Please Help the North Devon Extinction Rebellion Arrested Rebels
Please Help the North Devon Extinction Rebellion Arrested Rebels
We are a group of seven ordinary people from north Devon, who feel passionately about the climate crisis we face and chose to take action.
We travelled up to London to take part in the April Rebellion. We were all arrested. We know we're going to face charges and with this will come significant legal fees.
If we plead guilty, our fines will be smaller, but if we plead not guilty, because our actions were a proportionate response to the dire situation in which we find ourselves, then our fines are likely to be much bigger, if still found guilty. It would be good to make a moral stand and have this option.
We have no idea how much these will be or in fact when we will find out.
We expect these fees will run into the high thousands. We knew there would be consequences for our actions. We care so deeply about humanity facing its greatest threat and felt compelled to act.
Rosie & Mark Haworth-Booth and Pat Millner are the first of us in court on Friday 23rd August.
We're now asking for your help.
None of us are entitled to legal aid therefore we're really hopeful that people might chip in to help pay the defence legal fees for us. As with all legal cases, it is impossible to know in advance precisely what these costs will be.
We've set an initial target of 5,000.
Please help if you can, as we can’t do this on our own! Every contribution is welcome, large or small. Every penny counts.
If through your generosity we cover all of the fees for all of the arrested, the remainder funds will go directly to other XR legal cases and there quite a few of them!
If you are able to help, it would be great if you can do it now, to encourage others. And please share this page now with your friends and contacts.
A big thank you from us all.
