Persecuted Christian
Persecuted Christian
Teriz has experienced persecution in her home country of Egypt. She is married and has two young children (aged 10 & 7). She is a Coptic Christian who repeatedly suffered verbal and physical abuse by neighbours in her family flat in Egypt. She and her children also suffered a traumatic experience in a supermarket whereby she was threatened with a knife, and told to convert to Islam. Her attempts to inform the police were unsuccessful. She was told to move elsewhere in Egypt as they could not help her. She had lived in that flat for some 11 years. Upon attempts to leave their familial home, her husband was confronted and attacked by a group of men from the Islamic Salafist group. She and her husband were ordered to convert to Islam. The same group of men burned down her husband's shop, beat her dog, and sexually harassed her in public. Enduring this prolonged ordeal has had negative psychological consequences for her daughter. They tried to relocate but they were always followed by someone who's connected with the Islamist extremists as they told them before that they will find them wherever they go.
After a very difficult period of fear and anxiety, she managed to obtain a visit visa for her and her two children, although her husband was unsuccessful.
Upon arrival in the UK, she applied and was refused asylum in 2015. Her husband suffered another attack in December 2015. Her appeal was dismissed in July 2016. Her appeal was dismissed partly due to the judge's finding that it would be easy for her to relocate to another area of Egypt." she was served with a removal notice in September 2017.
She and her family will will face danger as Coptic Christians, in the event that they are deported to Egypt.
She has now instructed a private Counsel to submit a fresh asylum claim, and to obtain experts reports privately which it is very expensive.
We would be grateful if you support her and her family to continue to practice her faith freely without any fears. She and her children are much freer in this country, under no pressure to dress or wear certain things.
Thank you.
