Who are we?

We are three Black women taking on the fight for those like us, the marginalised to be allowed to stay safe online.

We want to be able to live in our truth and speak on our experiences without the fear of abuse, attacks or having our private information put out on the internet, available to anyone.

We are Three ordinary women who met online over a year ago

Firstly we have Tanya Byfield, mother to two beautiful children and an up and coming fluid artist from London. Judy Gattis, a mother to four amazing children working in the grass roots art sector as a screenwriter coming from Leeds and living Birmingham and finally Jasinya Powell from Nottingham, a company director of a domiciliary care company.

Call to action: The Truth V’s The Trolls

We are raising money to take legal action against online abusers and in some cases troll farms, who spend their day abusing anyone that do not hold the same views and values as them.

This case for us is about setting a precedent, having a anonymous account does not leave you hidden from consequences and repercussions.

We want everybody to feel safe online and that you should not have to be a footballer, politician or prominent public figure, to feel safe and protected on apps that are free and available for the use of everybody.

We want everybody to be held to accountable, whether you are a doctor, lawyer or a teacher your qualifications do not allow you to abuse and smear people you deem less important.

Having a large following or platform does not make you infallible, and if you are going to use this platform to continue to spread lies and smears then it's time to be made accountable for your actions

Enough is enough.

What are we trying to achieve?

We are wanting to unmask anonymous accounts that groups and individuals have used to hide behind and spread hate and untruths and finally letting them feel the weight of the law, civilly 

We will be using the funds raised to allow our legal representation to dig behind the profile picture, undress the VPN and expose the person behind the hate.

Once we know who is who we will then sue them and make the prove their lies that have been dangerous and damaging not to our reputations but it our psyche.

What is the next step in the case?

We are currently at the investigation and unmasking stage the next step will be to serve confirmed individuals that have defamed, lied, harassed and shared our private information.

The burden of truth will be on those indiviuals.

Statement from Cohen Davis Solicitors

We are the solicitors instructed by Judy Gatiss, Tanya Byfield and Jasinya Powell (“together our clients”). 

The ordeal that our clients have experienced and continue to experience is completely unacceptable. Individually and collectively, they have been harassed, defamed, and subjected to deplorable racist online attacks. 

The forces they have been confronted with daily are strong, resilient, and often driven by misguided ideology, which the perpetrators believe permits them to harass and abuse our clients with impunity. Others are simply opportunistic trolls who do not necessarily understand the impact of their actions. 

Unfortunately, the police, whose job is to protect individuals such as our clients, often lack the required expertise or financial resources to fully investigate online harassment. This is the reason our clients have instructed our firm to help them navigate the legal system, with the goal of holding their abusers to account as well as removing the online harassing content. 

We are currently at the investigation stages however, our strategy will involve applying to the High Court for a disclosure order and/or drafting legal letters of claim to the harassers. 

Disclosure orders will have the effect of compelling Twitter to reveal the identifying information behind the anonymous accounts used by the trolls who are responsible for their campaign of harassment towards our clients.

Once we have identified these trolls, we will subsequently decide whether to commence a civil action for harassment, breach of data, breach of privacy and defamation or in the unlikely event that no positive identity is revealed of any of the trolls, we will still be able to pursue the case through the civil courts, in a legal action against ‘Persons Unknown.’ 

If successful, this will allow our clients to obtain a court order for an injunction and damages against the trolls. Further, we would be able to serve the injunction on social media companies such as Twitter and on website operators and server hosts, who will have no option but to take down the abusive and harassing posts and prevent it from being reposted.
