We are a group of parents fighting the unlawful academisation of our school. Our Lady of Lourdes RC primary school is being forced to academise by the Diocese of Brentwood. We say NO!

OLOL E11 Parents are a group of parents who are fighting the forced academisation of Our Lady of Lourdes RC primary school in Wanstead, East London.

The Diocese of Brentwood decided to academise all its schools - that's over 70 schools in the whole of Essex plus the London Boroughs of Redbridge, Waltham Forest, Newham, Barking and Dagenham and Havering.

This decision was made 3 years ago but OLOL parents were informed in October 2018. The governing body have openly stated that they had no choice, as it was the will of the Bishop of Brentwood.

Following the decision to academise, the School started a consultation. However, despite parents requesting more information and an open dialogue, the School and the Diocese have remained very silent and only offered information when forced by parents through pressure of a peaceful protest and local and national press coverage. Three governors have resigned during this process.

The consultation therefore has not only been unsatisfactory, but unlawful.

Despite numerous attempts to engage with the governing body and have information shared, OLOL E11 Parents have no alternative but to now seek judicial review. We require the academisation process to be stopped, vacancies on the governing body to be filled and a new, thorough and meaningful consultation to be carried out, with a fresh vote accordingly.

We are looking to raise funds to pay our legal fees. Our target is £1,000 and we need your support: please contribute and share this page now!
