Crowdfunding to pursue a defamation action against Sarah Vine
Crowdfunding to pursue a defamation action against Sarah Vine
I'm Mic Wright, a freelance journalist and writer based in London. I've been writing professionally for 15 years, and have contributed to a wide range of newspapers and magazines including The Guardian, The Times, The Telegraph, GQ, The New Statesman, and MEL magazine.
In May 2020, I was defamed on Twitter by Sarah Vine, the Daily Mail columnist and wife of cabinet minister Michael Gove. The insinuations made by Ms Vine could have serious consequences for both me and my family. I do not have the financial resources to undertake an action to defend my reputation alone, but was encouraged by the response of others to her unfounded statements to use CrowdJustice to make an action possible.
In the first instance, I am crowdfunding to raise the money to pay for the legal letter asking for costs, damages and an apology, along with the time taken by my legal representative to give me advice.
What I'm trying to achieve here ultimately is to show that someone like Vine, with significant power and resources, cannot simply defame people just because they believe they won't be challenged on their words.
