My name is Lucy Mitchell. I attended a Palestine Solidarity Campaign march in London on 6 July 2024.
I was arrested for lying down outside the gates to Downing Street. I've now been charged with breaching a condition under section 14 of the Public Order Act 1986 and I am facing a trial at Westminster Magistrates' Court on 26 March 2025.
The police are saying that I knowingly breached a condition which required the demonstration to stick to a particular location on the Embankment in London. In fact I had no idea that any conditions were in place or that what I was doing might be a criminal offence.
In reality, I am being prosecuted for taking part in a peaceful protest in support of Palestine. Taking me to court for briefly lying down in a road is an astonishing attack on the right to protest.
My case is complicated because it involves difficult arguments about human rights and the right to protest. I have no experience with the criminal justice system and I'll be hugely disadvantaged if I have to represent myself.
Luckily I have found a team of expert solicitors and a barrister who specialise in defending protestors. Paying privately for this kind of representation would normally cost several thousand pounds, but they have agreed to work for a very reduced rate of £1,200 (£1,000 + VAT).
About Me
I am a 53 year old woman who has never been on trial before. I am employed part-time for the NHS and I live in council accommodation. I have very limited means but I have been refused legal aid or any government funding for legal representation.
I want to be able to defend myself and my right to protest, and take a stand against the harsh treatment that the police and the government are increasingly taking towards protestors.
PLEASE DONATE!
Although my legal team have agreed to work at a very reduced rate, I simply don't have that kind of money going spare. Please help me raise the £1,200 I need to defend myself against this attack on my right to protest!
Thank you so much to anyone who can donate!

I've hit the target for the fees for my legal representation. Unfortunately, if I am still found guilty there is a risk that I will have to pay a considerable fine. I will also have to pay towards the prosecution's costs for bringing the case, which could all add up to over a thousand pounds.
I have increased the stretch target on this page for anyone who is willing to help me pay those costs. If I get the right result and am found not guilty, then any extra money which did not go towards my legal representation will be donated to Crowd Justice's nominated charity which is the Access to Justice Foundation.
Thank you all so much!!!!
