Hello. My name is Doner and I am acting on behalf of my son, Scott.

Scott was a very fit and healthy young teenager, with a great future ahead of him, when he developed a fairly common and manageable medical condition - Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). What should have been a relatively simple course of treatment was badly managed by his doctors and medical team and now his quality of life and future have been irreversibly destroyed. His medical team and hospital refuse to accept any responsibility for the disastrously poor treatment he received and Scott needs your help to get justice. Please help us.

In the past 14 years, Scott has gone from a very fit and healthy young man who enjoyed various sports, including fitness training, kickboxing and snowboarding, to being virtually bed bound and who is unable to sit up for any period of time without intense pain.

Scott was 21, when his diagnosis of IBD was confirmed. During the next 4 years he endured 2 major, highly invasive surgeries, resulting in the removal of all of his large intestine and the fitting of a stoma. As a result of the prolonged use of very high dosages of steroids, opioid pain killers and other prescribed drugs, Scott suffered other major life-changing side-effects, including severe osteoporosis (fragile bones), loss of mobility, chronic pain and damage to major organs, which has threatened his life-expectancy considerably.

Try and imagine it; you are in your early twenties and you’re told that the future you dreamed of just disappeared  in the blink of an eye.  Every holiday you ever wished for, meeting the love of your life and watching them walk down the aisle, becoming a parent and being able to watch them grow in absolute amazement, simply just growing old, it has all disappeared.  But now, your reality and your future are constant pain, bedridden and relying on others for just the basic tasks that you take for granted such as cooking, shopping and personal care.

During his years of treatment, the prescribed medication, major operations and many long periods spent in hospital didn’t improve Scott’s condition and his overall health got much worse. Amongst his medical team there were also contradictions and changes in diagnosis, confusion over the best course of treatment and even the withdrawal of the plan  to “remove the stoma”.

After numerous attempts to establish what had gone wrong, a catastrophic catalogue of medical failings and poor treatment emerged and despite many official requests, the healthcare provider refused to conduct a full investigation or accept any responsibility. We now have the evidence that there were several alleged Breaches of Duty and failures to comply with established procedures and firmly believe Scott’s poor treatment was not an isolated case. Scott’s medical team are denying any liability and hoping that we will run out of money, before this case gets to Court.

We need to raise £20,000 to help cover legal costs for the necessary medical expert witnesses to be instructed, so that Scott’s case can proceed. The claim for compensation will secure funding, not only to cover all of his future physical, treatment and care needs, but to help improve his quality of life.

You can help today on our CrowdJustice page by donating, as your contribution, however small, will matter. It will make a huge difference to Scott, by ensuring he can access much needed safer healthcare in the future. Importantly, it will help others, as Scott’s story is not an isolated case that we are aware of, and you may know of others, that have had similar experiences and are left to suffer in silence and despair.

It is only by highlighting the problems in our healthcare system, including the inconsistencies in quality of diagnosis and treatment, as well as the culture of denial and isolating patients, that will ensure these changes can be escalated to healthcare providers. Hopefully this may help prevent others from suffering the same catastrophic, life-altering mistakes that Scott has.
