We are so grateful!

We never expected this kind of generosity, and the fact that we have reached our goal for Kaci in less than 24 hours is truly mind blowing to us!

We are the parents of our 17-year-old daughter, Kaci, who has a rare genetic disorder called Koolen de Vries Syndrome.

Kaci has needed extensive care throughout her life and is about to reach adulthood where she will move from a care placement in children's social services into one in adult social services. She has very complex needs, has been assessed as lacking capacity to make future care/treatment decisions and struggles to communicate with others.  She requires extra support in every aspect of her life and we are aiming to provide her with the best opportunities that we can for her future.

To help Kaci make decisions about her future welfare we need to apply to the Court of Protection for an order to become deputies. This will allow us to manage her health and welfare.

This procedure is to gather evidence and draft statements as well as an application to the Court of Protection to show that Kaci requires a health and welfare deputy to be in place to make decisions on her behalf. Unfortunately, this can be a costly process and we will struggle as we have been her carers for the past 17 years and have been unable to work because of her 24/7 care needs.

We need your support to make the application to the court and pay for the legal fees associated with making that application successful. Please contribute if you can and share the page to anyone else you think may be able to help us.

Kaci is completely reliant on other people to look after her and make sure that she is safe. Her complex and rare condition is not likely to improve for the rest of her life. This makes her extremely vulnerable and because of her communication difficulties, she requires people who know her well to make those decisions on her behalf. We, as her parents feel that we know her and her needs better than anyone else. We want to offer her the best possible future. The role of parents changes when a young person reaches 18 and we would like to apply to be granted permission to make decisions in Kaci's best interests for her when necessary.  She has very complex health care issues that will need us to make decisions about her epilepsy treatment, surgery on her legs, medications and treatment plans for the future.

We will never stop striving to make sure that she has the best opportunities in life and this is why we need your help to make sure that she gets those chances.

We know that health and welfare deputyships are harder to obtain than financial deputyships and so we think that the most effective way to make the applications is with the help of a solicitor. We have instructed Irwin Mitchell solicitors firm to help us make this application to ensure that the court has the right information and evidence to make this decision.

We need to raise £4000 to cover all of the costs of the application and the legal fees for the solicitors in the Health and Welfare deputy case. This will give us the best chances of the case being successful when it goes to the court.

We appreciate any help that you can give and we can't thank you enough for helping our vulnerable daughter have the best chances at a bright future.
