Islamophobia Response Unit is an independent charity dedicated to supporting people affected by Islamophobic incidents in England and Wales. 

We are a platform for victims of Islamophobia to confidentially report their experiences. Our purpose is to provide legal guidance, help clients and ensure their voices are heard. Amidst rising levels of Islamophobia and around half of all religiously motivated hate crimes being directed at Muslims, we put them at the heart of our organisation.

Over the years we have developed an understanding of our community and what it needs when it comes to supporting victims of Islamophobia. Our focus has always been to challenge Islamophobia and pave the legal avenues available to each client to tackle this injustice.

How we help

Once a case is reported to us and our remit is established, our staff and volunteers will assess each victim’s needs to provide the best possible support. IRU has a conciliatory and advisory approach, determining what legal recourse may be available to each victim on a case-by-case basis. We seek redress for victims but also aim to educate and work with organisations to improve cultural sensitivity towards Muslims. 

How YOU can help

As with most cases, obtaining pre-litigation guidance or paying legal fees can be a daunting process for many of our clients due to a lack of funds. Your donation can help our clients obtain bespoke guidance and pay legal fees should they pursue litigation in cases of Islamophobia.

We have an ongoing fundraising target for each campaign, focusing on specific cases we receive such as: 

• Lack of prayer spaces in schools;
• Islamophobic bullying in schools;
• Discriminatory uniform policies; and
• Discrimination in the workplace.

In some cases, we may provide additional support for individuals who have been subjected to Islamophobic hate crime, for example:

• Repairs due to criminal damages;
• Safety measures to prevent further attacks; and
• Scope for private prosecution.
