Help single mum prosecuted for son's mental health absence from school
Sharon is a single mum being prosecuted for failing to get her 12 year old son to school. He suffers from anxiety and depression and the school is almost 4 miles away with no school bus. Sharon is being tried in May 2018 and has been declined legal aid.
Her son has been suffering from anxiety and depression for years and has struggled to cope at school. He has been suspended and sent home many times and most recently was moved to a new school almost 4 miles from his home. No school bus service was provided and his attendance got worse. Now the local authority is prosecuting his mum who has been striving to get him the best education she can.
Sharon's trial is listed to take place in May 2018. She has been declined legal aid and cannot afford legal representation on her modest income. The local authority sent two lawyers to her first court hearing at tax-payers' expense.
Sharon is seeking initial advice from a specialist lawyer in advance of trial and hopes to get legal representation at the final hearing.
