Help Grenfell Families Get an Inquiry They Believe In
Help Grenfell Families Get an Inquiry They Believe In
Who am I?
I was a resident of Grenfell Tower. I escaped the fire, but my disabled relative, my father, was unable to get out and died.
The case
Following the Grenfell fire, the Prime Minister stated her commitment to discovering the truth and ordered a public inquiry. I am urging her to act now to appoint a panel to lead the Inquiry.
I believe that it is essential that the Inquiry is led by a panel of people with diverse backgrounds and experiences, and a real understanding of the issues facing Grenfell families. A diverse panel will reach better decisions. Most importantly, a diverse panel will ensure public confidence, which will increase the chances that its findings will be accepted and recommendations implemented. The Inquiry must not be led by a single judge.
On 22 December 2017, the Prime Minister stated that she was not going to appoint additional panel members at this stage. Sir Martin Moore-Bick is therefore leading the Inquiry alone.
What legal action are we taking?
Through my solicitors, I have issued a judicial review of the Prime Minister’s decision not to appoint additional panel members to the Inquiry. I am now asking the High Court to give permission for a judge to consider whether the Prime Minister’s decision was lawful.
Where is the money going?
If I lose the case I will be liable for the Prime Minister’s legal costs, which could amount to thousands of pounds. I need to raise at least £5,000 to meet these costs so that I do not have to foot the bill myself in the event the claim fails.
