About me
I was a creative director at a top ad agency, AMV BBDO. I loved my job — until one day I was handed a brief for a global sustainability campaign for Mars. I looked into their claims — and what I found was disturbing. They market ‘100% responsible’ cocoa while child labour remains a documented issue in cocoa supply chains. They build coral reefs that spell 'Hope' to sell cat food, while reports say industrial fishing is wiping out marine life. I told my bosses we shouldn’t be making these claims. They told me to stop digging. I raised concerns with Mars — and got suspended. In the end, I felt I had to resign.
What’s this case about?
To keep profiting, corporations need to look good — and ad agencies help them do just that, for a generous fee. There are six million people working in advertising globally. Many don’t support greenwashing but feel unable to speak up. This case could help change that. We can make it safer for those inside the industry to challenge greenwashing — and give them a legal precedent to stand on.
What are we trying to achieve?
Our planet is being destroyed for profit — and top advertising agencies conceal the damage from the public. This case can make it safer for millions of employees to call out greenwashing without fear of losing their jobs. I won't be taking any settlement, and I won't sign an NDA. This case needs to be heard in public.
Can an Employment Tribunal claim really change things?
Greenwashing is only possible when employees are kept quiet. This case is backed by Greenpeace, Climate Whistleblowers, Blue Marine Foundation, Law for Change, Creatives for Climate, Extinction Rebellion, and others — and it’s been covered by the Financial Times, Forbes, France 24, Campaign, and Al Jazeera.
Greenpeace UK’s co-executive director, Will McCallum, said:
“Greenwashing is an act of mass deception that allows corporations to hide the harm they’re causing to climate and nature. The advertising industry has made fortunes by enabling it, leaving us all with the massive costs of more extreme weather, pollution and depleted oceans. For advertising agencies to walk the talk on sustainability, they should create a culture of openness where staff are encouraged to scrutinise their clients' green credentials instead of just helping them mislead the public.”
Lawrence Davies, CEO and solicitor at Equal Justice, added:
“This is likely the most significant climate and environmental sustainability whistleblower Tribunal claim to date, exposing the critical issues that many global corporations ignore or greenwash.”
Why I need your help?
My legal expenses will likely exceed £100K. The system isn’t broken — it’s working exactly as designed: protecting corporations while they destroy the environment and exploit the most vulnerable. When companies silence employees, they bet on this paywall — and in 99% of cases, they’re right. Until they aren't.
What’s next?
The preliminary hearing is scheduled for late April. The final hearing date will be set at that stage.
How much are we raising, and why?
Our total goal is £58,000 to cover legal costs through to the final hearing.
I can’t do this alone. But together, we can confront the multibillion greenwashing machine.
