British ex-soldier about to be deported by the Home Office
British ex-soldier about to be deported by the Home Office
Who am I?
My name is Joram Nechironga. I served in the British army. I served in Iraq during my five years with the 9 Supply Regiment, based at Hullavington Barracks, in Wiltshire.
I want to challenge the Home Office decision to deport me to Zimbabwe. I committed my life to serving the British army. I have family in this country and I consider the UK as my home.
My story
I am facing deportation to Zimbabwe. This is despite the fact that I have served in the British army. I developed PTSD after the war in Iraq. I committed an offence after returning from service or which I served a prison sentence and I reformed myself. I do not have any other convictions.
I have two British children and l have lived in the UK for more than 20 years. My life is at risk if I am deported to Zimbabwe and l will not be able access adequate medical facilities there. When I went to Zimbabwe in 2006, I was tortured and beaten for serving in the British Army and was viewed as a “spy”.
My MP Zarah Sultana has been supporting me. She has said: “This deportation would be a gross and unfair double punishment, ripping Joram away from his loved ones and exposing him to the threat of torture. Joram was scarred while serving in the British army and admits he made mistakes, but he served his time and is trying to rebuild life in Coventry.”
I am raising money to do pay for my legal fees, expert reports and other legal disbursements. We need your support: please contribute what you can and share this page now!
Why am I raising funds?
My lawyers are looking to challenge the decision of the Home Office by either a judicial review or further submission process so as to stop my deportation and that I be granted my leave to remain visa.
Thank you so much for your support - please share this page far and wide with family and friends and on social media.
