We, the nearly 5 million EU, EEA, Swiss citizens and our family members from around the world currently living in the UK, are at risk of discrimination for decades to come because our rights are in danger of being eroded by Brexit.

We have already challenged the Government on #DeniedMyVote and the immigration exemption to the Data Protection Act, but sadly, we know many more legal challenges will be needed to protect our lives in the future. 

The task ahead is enormous. We need to safeguard our right to live and work in the UK, to access the NHS, to have our qualifications recognised, to pay and receive our pensions, to access our social security rights and to have the guarantee not to be discriminated against.

Not to mention the absolute scandal that some of us will become unlawful migrants, subject to the hostile environment and at risk of removal from the UK.

We know the Government’s management of the Settled Status Scheme has already been proven highly flawed, with statistics deemed to be unreliable, misleading and wrong. 

 We know many more of our rights will come under attack through poorly drafted or ill-advised legislation. 

 To protect the rights of each and every EU citizen living in the UK after Brexit, we need your help and support:

 •    Our legal team  needs to scrutinise the masses of laws that will need to be passed to enshrine the Withdrawal Agreement into UK law to ensure that the rights of EU citizens are protected and maintained to the same level as they are now;

 •    We will monitor the implementation of these laws to ensure that no covert discrimination takes place against EU citizens – their rights to move, to work, to set up businesses, to access services, to buy or rent a home, to access their pensions and more. 

Note: discrimination of EU citizens by stealth is a real danger during implementation and post-Brexit, and our legal team will be particularly vigilant in exposing any such practices;

 •    We will inform our advocacy colleagues at the3million and partner organisations of the risk of proposed legislation; we will identify opportunities to strengthen legal protection for EU citizens and develop workable proposals for legislation;

 •    We will assess the need for legal challenges and advise the3million board on the viability of proceeding to court action.
