End Discrimination against Employees with Autism Spectrum Disorder
End Discrimination against Employees with Autism Spectrum Disorder
Hi there, thank you for taking an interest in my page. I am the mother of an adult with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Dyspraxia but I have to remain anonymous for the sake of my daughter's claim.
My daughter was forced to leave her job at a law firm due to discrimination and bullying - all stemming from her asking management for reasonable adjustments due to her disability. My daughter was bullied to the point of a nervous breakdown and is still dealing with the after effects and severe damage to her confidence. People with ASD have an extremely rough time dealing with stress and anxiety.
No-one should have to put up with being bullied or discriminated against at work. Everyone should instead be treated with dignity and respect. An employer is responsible for preventing bullying and harassing behaviour but, as far as my daughter was concerned, nothing was done in her case. She feels that she received no support at all and the bullying continued until she became ill and had to leave her employment.
I am raising money in order to take the case all the way to the Employment Tribunal final hearing if necessary, in order to get justice for my daughter and show her ex-employers that they should not treat any employees this way but especially those with disabilities.
I want to make it clear and set a precedent that no employer is above the Equality Act. The legislation is there to protect the most vulnerable in society and it must be upheld.
The case has been to a case management/directions hearing and our solicitor is due to exchange relevant documents before the preparation of witness statements in preparation for the final hearing.
I have set an initial target of £1,000 towards the initial legal costs that have been incurred but I have a stretch target of £10,000 towards the costs of bringing the case to final hearing.
Thank you so much for any help you can give!
