Support My Son's Education & Healthcare Plan
I'm a mother of four children and I am fighting for my son F's right to an education.
F is diagnosed with autism, severe anxiety (OCD), tourettes syndrome, ADHD,, low adaptive functioning, a significant speech and language disorder, nocturnal enuresis, chronic motor tic disorder and fine motor coordination difficulties.
His school has stated that it is unable to meet F's complex needs and that his place will terminate in the summer term of 2019. I'm challenging this decision and I need your help - please contribute whatever you can and share this page with friends and family and on social media.
Our local authority has been provided with a number of assessment reports in relation to my son’s complex needs that show his OCD is severe and manifests in anger and aggression.
This has led to a severity of aggression and anger, particularly towards his siblings and assaulting his family members. This is also exacerbated by his physical size. It is also recorded within F’s assessments that he has a deficit in terms of functional skills and an inability to carry out daily living tasks.
In the absence of effective problem-solving skills and communication F relies on aggression to get his needs met. His aggression becomes a source of low mood and poor self-esteem as he sees himself as a bad person and then this becomes a vicious circle.
Reports from the Maudsley Adolescent at-risk & Forensic service & CAMHS strongly recommend a residential provision with 24 hour curriculum “a residential educational placement that is able to offer adequate supervision and behaviour management to meet his complex needs”.
Despite all this I’m still struggling with LA for over a year and a half for an EHCP.
