Our Story
A much loved area enjoyed by generations of villagers has been taken away from the community in favour of organised sport. Set up after world war II with financial help from the education and health budgets, the recreation area was thought essential to encourage community spirit and wellbeing. It became the heart of the village.
In their haste to dispose of the playing fields, the council have not considered the impact that fencing the area and denying public access has had on the village.
Our Aim
Our goal is to reinstate the historical pathways/easements, giving the community access for recreation and free play. As you might have heard we have instructed a solicitor to challenge the actions of Swansea City Council and we could really do with your help to continue our legal campaign.
In light of the Covid 19 pandemic and lockdowns access to this safe green area was of paramount importance. Waunarlwydd playing fields was the only multipurpose area open to all ages and abilities.
Next Steps
Our next steps is to further challenge the councils denial and interpretation of formal easements and to reinstate public access.
We are raising funds to instruct a solicitor to collate all the information we have uncovered and pursue a legal case.
We would like everyone to have access to this safe green space, significantly improving Physical, Mental Health and Well Being.
Our initial target is £2,500 to begin our legal campaign.
Even a small donation would help us to reach our goal.

UPDATE - We have managed to agree with the Council to mediate!!
As we have previously said, the Council has already accepted that the Land is subject to as statutory trust land. Land subject to a statutory trust means it is land held for the benefit of the public as an open space. So the people of Waunarlwydd, have a right to use the land and we can enforce those rights against the Council and the Club.
A mediation is a private dispute resolution procedure, which is managed by a legal expert appointed by the parties. The process itself is confidential so people will not be able to come and watch the meeting. This will hopefully provide a resolution to the situation at Waunarlwydd Playing Fields.
In order to mediate, we will need to pay for the costs of the mediator and our own legal fees.
We think this a great chance to get the Waunarlwydd Playing Fields reopened, and are asking for donations to help cover these costs.
This is our final chance to get our green space reopened.
Please can we ask for your help one more time. The last time we pulled together we achieved our goal.
PLEASE give whatever you can afford to help us cover our costs.
Thank you.
