Who am I?

Hello, I'm Carol - a mum, an environmental campaigner and a local resident to the Kirby Misperton onshore oil and gas drilling site which is known as KM8.

My case

In September 2017 I attended the anti-fracking protest there and became the victim of an unprovoked assault by a Police Officer, causing lasting damage to my shoulder.

I am raising money to help fund legal fees including court fees and essential reports, including an orthopaedic report on my shoulder, to support my legal action against North Yorkshire Police.

If you are able to help with a contribution I would be most grateful; even a small donation will make a big difference.

What are we trying to achieve?

It is important that I am able to pursue my case, to stand up, bring the police to account and to protect the right to peaceful protest.

I continue to suffer from the injury the police officer caused to me. An orthopaedic report will enable my lawyers to show the unnecessary, sustained force used against me and the damage caused.

I first need to issue my claim at Court, which will incur a Court Fee.

How much I am raising and why?

I have set an initial target of£500, this will cover the Court Fee for me to issue my claim. I have also set a stretch target of £3,500 which will cover the costs of the report and other legal fees that I may need to pay.

Without the report there is less chance of a successful outcome in court and it is essential that I shine a light on - and make a stand against - police brutality.

Thank you to Guy Mitchell and the legal team at Hodge, Jones and Allen who have tirelessly worked for the last year to get the case to this stage.

Thank you in advance for supporting me to take the next essential steps towards achieving justice.

Examination done!

Hello - long time no speak!

I'm sorry I haven't been in touch for a long time but the complications of Covid and trying to find an Orthopaedic Surgeon north of Watford Gap who was able to see me was a little more complex than anticipated.

The examination is done and the next step is an MRI scan.  The examination report is back with my solicitor and, without publicly going into too much detail, is damning.

Time marches on and we are nearly at the end of this lengthy journey.  I will keep you posted as soon as I'm able.

Take care, keep safe and thanks again.

When you dare to dream

Hello everyone

92% there! Wow!  I just wanted to give you a quick update - with less than £300 left to go I am so thrilled to have my target in sight.  We are still waiting for the court to respond with a date, not sure quite what the delay is but I do wish they'd hurry up!  I dared to dream we'd get to this point and thanks to everyone of you, the dream is about to become a reality.

Have a lovely weekend and thank you again.

A last push!

Hello again -   I can't believe it, we're 74% there!  With 3 days to my original deadline, and £900 to go, I have decided to extend the deadline a little.  We are so close to the stretch target of £3500 and I am confident with a last push we'll smash it!  Thank you again for all your continued support and please, share, share, share!

A week to go

This morning my lawyer filed my claim at Court. With just a week to go I cannot believe how generous everyone has been with their donations, but also with their support and kind comments.   We still have a little way to go.  Please, if you are able, donate a little (or a lot) we have about £1500 left to raise.  If you can share with your contacts and ask them to support I would be thankful.

I have always believed in standing up for what is right and having courage in my convictions (probably the wrong choice of words here!) Bullies need calling out.  Thank you for helping me do just that.

Did we peak too soon?

Wasn't the first week of our fundraising staggering?  We hit 50% (£1750) which was utterly amazing in just 7 days.  Week 2 has been more about catching our breath and we've strolled a little further forward!  It's time to put our foot down again and speed towards our goal.

Can you help me please?  I'd love you to share the link to my fundraiser with all of your contacts.  If you happen to have won the lottery and you have an extra fiver, please consider donating - every penny and every pound helps.

Thank you for your continued support. C

Heading for half way

As I head off to bed I am so excited to see that we've smashed through the 1/3 of target figure and we're hurtling towards half way. How awesome would it be if we could make that half-way mark by the end of the first week?  Thank you to everyone for your kind comments and generous donations, this is a truly humbling experience.  I know I sound like a broken record but please share, share, share - let's keep this amazing momentum going. Sweet dreams and my heartfelt thanks once again x

"You've topped a grand!"

I received a message from a friend a few minutes ago  - it read "you've topped a grand!"  I read it three times - I am humbled and staggered at how quickly that money has been pledged!  We are so close to reaching a 1/3 of the target figure - and in just 4 days. It is so reassuring to realise so many of you support my case.  Please continue to share my story.

Thank you again and seriously - to everyone who has pledged so far, as we say up north,  "you're grand!"

Update 2

Aug. 30, 2020

Game on!

I went to bed last night on the brink of the first goal being reached and this morning I work up to see we'd smashed through it!  Thank you - proceedings will now be issued and the work starts to reach the stretch target.  If you are able to share my link, please do - as widely and as frequently as you can.  Wishing you a happy bank holiday weekend and again, thank you for your support. C

We're off to a great start. Thank you.
