We all know funding can be a barrier to people accessing the courts. At CrowdJustice, we try to provide a solution to this huge challenge with our platform that lets people come together and support legal action.

CrowdJustice was started by lawyers so we get that legal funding isn’t a static challenge. Circumstances change, costs are incurred, cases are won and lost. There are a lot of moving parts. With deep cuts to legal aid, an increasing number of cases involve real risks to claimants, supporters and lawyers. If they go ahead at all.

Because funding is such a challenge — we built the CrowdJustice platform specifically to solve the problems associated with the funding of legal cases. We’ve tried to be as responsive as possible to the needs of the people who raise funds with us.

That’s one of the reasons we developed our unused funds policy. We think it’s a pretty unique feature that makes things easier for our case owners and means people that back a CrowdJustice campaign know their money is being put to good use. Even in the uncertain world of legal funding.

When CrowdJustice campaigns have funds left over, if a successful case has received recovered some costs for example, we offer our case owners two options. They can either give the remaining funds to another related CrowdJustice campaign, thereby immediately adding to the momentum of another case that is increasing access to justice around a similar issue. Or, they can contribute to our recommended charity The Access to Justice Foundation.

The Access to Justice Foundation are a grant making charity that supports vulnerable people who need free legal advice and representation. Giving more people access to representation is what we are all about, so it’s a privilege to be able to partner with the Access to Justice Foundation to support their work.

Today, we’re very proud to announce that CrowdJustice backers have enabled us to make a £25,000 donation so the Access to Justice foundation can continue and expand their incredibly important work.

A big shout out to all our CrowdJustice backers. It’s because of your contributions that we’re able to make a donation like this and continue to support other organisations that are working to expand access to justice.
